Welcome and thank you for visiting today.
For much of my professional life I have been a part of higher education and it’s always been a pleasure to interact and learn with adults. In completing my undergraduate degree, I stumbled upon the opportunity to attend a diversity and inclusion conference, where the keynote speaker joined us at our table for conversation after her address. These few hours in her presence gave me some insight into what I may want to do with my future. Armed with her energy and my own ambitions, I began researching the profile of adult learners attending non-traditional university programs, and the disadvantages they have in their learning versus their younger traditional counterparts. I found an unmet need in higher education for the recognition, advancement, and connection, of adult learners to their communities. With the hopes of social change and improvement for my fellow learners, I began a master’s program to find the foundational tools to inspire change. I have worked with a wide variety of people, from all ages, motivations, and skill sets. This hands-on knowledge has been exponential in figuring out my own personal methods for interaction and learning. Stepping outside of the learner role and becoming the educator was a road less traveled, but one with great rewards. I enjoy working closely with others on professional development, writing skills, and interpersonal relationships. Combining the academic pursuits with my career goals has been incredibly beneficial in finding new methods of instruction and connection with others. On this site, you will find my statement of teaching/advising where I describe my philosophy for learning, guiding students in their education, and how I plan to be effective in education. The content here will evolve as I continue pursuing my degree and gain experience in the workforce, keep an eye on my projects page to view additional content and publications as they come available. Please feel free to connect with me by leaving any comments or thoughts on my posts. In line with educating adults, I’ve shared my favorite causes and organizations, as well as provided a chance to engage with me through other media. Best wishes, Michelle |
